Mindfulness and Rituals[edit]

Mindfulness can be a helpful recovery tool. It's important to focus on the present without ruminating on the past or worrying about the future.

Rituals, or repetitive physical tasks are also useful. Focus on the motion of your body and physical sensations.

Pleasant Sensory Experiences[edit]

Use beautiful objects, music or other pleasing sounds, and pleasing scents.

Exercise[edit]

This is difficult to do in the middle of a burnout episode, but it can greatly help recovery.

Creative Activities[edit]

This can be a double-edged sword. Perfectionism can make you upset when your creation doesn't meet your expectations. You need to give yourself permission to make something terrible. Work with no particular goal other than expressing yourself and having fun.

Books, Shows, and Other Entertainment[edit]

It's important to avoid anything upsetting here. The best material is often something familiar that you enjoyed before.

Energy Accounting[edit]

Reduce your expectations for yourself when you're burned out. Find out what activities energize you, which ones drain you, and learn to balance them out.
